Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis
Isn’t it ironic that with all of the memorable roles that Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis have played over their lifetimes, the ones that have forever etched them into our memories were their horror roles– Janet Leigh in the Psycho shower scene and Jamie Lee Curtis as the Halloween survivor? Some families have whiners, but this is a family of exceptional screamers!
The two roles in which the duo appeared together were Halloween H20 (where Janet makes a cameo appearance where she reports a problem with the shower to Jamie Lee) and The Fog. Janet and Jamie Lee are the true original–the scream team duo.
The relationship with Janet and Jamie Lee was amiable enough, but a price was paid for the fame of Hollywood and the distraction of drugs and alcohol. Janet Leigh divorced Jamie Lee’s father, Tony Curtis, when Jamie Lee was quite young and quickly remarried into a stable relationship to a banker that lasted for the rest of Janet’s life.
Jamie Lee did have a stable relationship with her mother and stepfather, but did not have an especially tight bond and suffered from lack of self esteem. Tony Curtis struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and unfortunately, Jamie Lee inherited his addiction. Jamie Lee is now completely drug and alcohol free. She has chosen to forgive, forgoing the weight of historic baggage that serves only to bog down a future of hope and promise.
Jamie Lee gained great wisdom from this rocky childhood. She has been married to Christopher Guest since 1984 and is mother to two adopted children. While she is still involved with acting, her passion is writing children’s books. She is involved in philanthropic work, mostly working with children and women with addiction.
And I bet Jamie Lee’s kids know very well not to make their mom scream…
