Wear it Proud

We’ve all heard that famous line about pausing before you walk out the door, giving your outfit the once over and removing one accessory.

Ms EmWhat?! I wear earrings, at least one necklace, a couple rings and a stack of bracelets nearly every day. And if I had more, I’d pile those on, too. I won’t even start with my flair jacket, adorned with buttons top to bottom. After some light googling, I was unable to unearth the source of this infamous directive.

Someone said maybe it was Jackie Kennedy, the indisputable, untouchable heavy weight champion of taste and style but nothing came up. My mind wandered to Coco Chanel, but as I was reading some of her famous quotes I realized her style M.O. was much more in line with my own.

This was the point where I said who cares? I like to wear tons of jewelry. And I receive compliments on my quirky style all the time. People are always coming up and touching my pendant, picking it up, flipping it around in their hands or jangling my heap of bracelets which sounds like a wind chime. I think it’s all in how you wear what you wear, not how much of it are you wearing.

I like to find interesting pieces, so I really love estate jewelry. One really amazing piece can totally make an entire outfit, the smallest item can completely change the look. That said, why can’t several items work together and really make an impact? They can. Choose wisely and you can take the most basic tube top and skirt from afternoon in the park to dinner and cocktails. It’s all about the jewelry. If one gold bangle is great, isn’t 9 more just icing on an already pretty cake? Um, yea. Jewelry is meant to be worn and adored. So what if you choose to adore a few more pieces than someone else?

If you love it and love the way it looks, don’t pause…march straight out the door with all 32 pieces of jewelry on and don’t give it a second thought. Until your cabbie starts eyeing your huge amethyst ring.
