Donna Summer and Brooklyn Sudano
All through middle and high school, Donna Summer was my favorite singer. I even twisted my ankle dancing to “Last Dance” in my Candies… for those of you who weren’t born yet, they were the first high heels slides made especially to be worn with jeans. Even though I replaced Donna with Pat Benatar once I hit college, even today when one of her songs comes on the radio, I turn it up and sing along. And now her daughter Brooklyn Sudano has broken into the limelight as a model and television actress.
While Brooklyn was born in LA at the height of Donna’s musical eclipse, she and her two sisters were raised in the quiet security of a very tightly knit family. By the time Brooklyn reached her teen years, Donna and husband Bruce Sudano had moved their family to Nashville, where Brooklyn was involved in school productions and gospel choir. She spent her summer vacations singing backup for her mother. A very serious student, she graduated from high school at the top of her class.
While Brooklyn was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York, she was signed on by the Ford Modeling Agency, where she was prominently featured in major print and television advertising campaigns. The talented and beautiful actress/singer/model is just starting to break into television as Donna’s new album, Crayons, is making its way through the Billboard Adult Contemporary rankings.
Way to go, Donna! Brooklyn is an awesome role model for young people today. I hope my kids are as a big a fan of Brooklyn as I am of her mother!
