Vera Wang and Cecilia and Josephine Becker
When I was a little girl, my friend Anne and I used to bicker over which one of us got to wear her sister’s wedding dress when we played dress up! Being the only sister of all boys had its distinct advantages, but a closet to play in was not one of them!
With Vera Wang for mother, Cecilia and Josephine have no shortage of wedding dresses to choose from! The flip side is having your own style as a teenager must have its challenges when your mother has inspired the style of nearly every woman in America through one of her clothing lines!
Vera Wang is a testament to the idea that you can be anything you want to be if you are simply willing to put in the time and make the sacrifice. And if you surround yourself who believe in you when you slip into doubt.
Vera was first known as a champion ice skater. When she did not make the Olympic team, she jumped the pond, landing in Paris. She traded her passion for skating for a passion for fashion. And became an icon in the fashion industry. She did this the way she has done everything in her life: by diving headlong into whatever task was put before her and forging relationships the entire way.
From copy girl to the youngest editor for Vogue Magazine to a successful career at Ralph Lauren. She left Ralph Lauren when her passion to be a mom resulted in daily medical procedures. When these procedures were unsuccessful, she adjusted her passion for being pregnant to being a mom and she adopted Cecilia and Josephine.
During that time, a new passion for designing wedding dresses was born out of her inability to find truly beautiful wedding dresses. Her father showed his belief in her with emotional and financial backing. And her friends at Vogue launched her wedding line! Vera has instilled the importance of hard work, passion and maintaining relationships.
Cecilia and Josephine are both teenagers now. I bet they have the coolest dresses for every prom and formal! But far beyond that, they have an amazing mentor and role model for a mom.
