July - Ruby

As brilliant as fireworks in July … ruby is the birthstone of this sultry summer month.

One of the most prized gemstones throughout history is ruby. Ruby is from the mineral family of corundum. Most people do not know that ruby is the sister of sapphire, which is also corundum. However, only red corundum is considered ruby. Prior to the nineteenth century, garnets and spinels were often confused with rubies. In fact, some of the famous ‘rubies’ in the British Crown Jewels are actually spinels!

Passionate Ruby

Natural occurring rubies in sizes over 3 carats are extremely rare. If you feel the passionate draw of this sexy stone, you are in good company. Rubies have mesmerized royalty and aristocrats since the dawn of time. Crown jewels all over the world have been encrusted with rich red rubies. Celebrated in the Bible and in ancient Sanskrit writings, rubies were considered the most precious of all gemstones. In ancient India, a greeting party full of dignitaries was sent out to meet and celebrate the discovery of especially beautiful rubies. This opulent, fiery red stone has been the symbol of passion and romance for centuries.

Royal Ruby

Its blood red color was a symbol of courage and bravery. Kings and Queens revered and wore rubies to bring them valor, make them invincible and protect their wealth from being taken from them. This romantic gem is beautiful faceted or cut into a cabochon and wearing it will make any woman feel like royalty.
