Amber through Cabochon

From ancient amber to glowing cabochon. Find out more…

Amber

Fossilized resin from extinct trees … the ultimate for the ecologically minded fashionista!

Antiqued

A finish that gives the appearance of age to an item.

Asscher

A style of diamond cutting named after famed Dutch diamond cutter Joseph Asscher, which resembles a rectangular or square shaped octagon. This sexy cut has had a recent resurgance of popularity as a unique alternative to the traditional emerald cut.

Asterism

Get star struck when light reflected or transmitted into a crystal causes a star shape to appear in the gem. Imagine a star ruby or sapphire!

Baguette

A narrow rectangular-shaped stone with rows of step-like facets. When one end of the stone is more narrow than the other end forming a trapezoid it is called a Tapered Baguette.

Bail

A loop connecting a jewelry piece to a chain or cord, usually made of metal.

Bangle

A rigid circular or oval bracelet of any width. Wide cuff style bangles or thin, tiny bangles stacked in multiples are fun style statements that are sure to wow anyone.

Bar Brooch

A piece of jewelry in a long, narrow rectangular shape with a pin on the back that pierces a piece of material twice before attaching onto itself with a clasp.

Baroque

A term used in reference to irregular shaped pearls of any origin. The facinating shapes of baroque pearls have a natural, organic look.

Bezel

A style of setting gemstones where a rim of metal holds the stone and completely surrounds the gem. A great way set your stone if you have an active lifestyle!

Brilliance

Better known as Bling! Brilliance is the sparkle in a stone when light is reflected from the surface and refracted from the internal facets of the gem.

Brilliant-cut

No these are not genius stones, but it is ingenious how Brilliant cuts are scientifically found to reflect the most light from within a stone. A round brilliant-cut diamond has 58 carefully calculated facets which maximize the magic in the gem. Other brilliant cuts include the heart, oval, marquise and pear shaped.

Brushed finish

A metal surface finishing technique which adds a soft texture and creates a less reflective surface.

Cabochon

A facet-less style of stone cutting that produces a smooth domed surface with a flat base. A stone cut this way often appears to glow from within, as will you, when you wear a sensual cabochon gem!
