April 15, 2009: Because Only Two Things In Life Are Certain

Yes it is tax day, and while taxes are no fun, they are most definitely the preferred one of the two famous certainties. lilyledbetter2This week we are celebrating both Lilly Ledbetter, as our Delamina woman of the week, and President Obama for signing into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act early in his tenure. Lilly has demonstrated that women can excel in a traditionally male world and has paved the way for the rest of us to demand equal wages. And Barack, many thanks for making this a priority, though I suspect Michelle wouldn’t have it any other way. Perhaps, as a country, we really are finally inching toward sanity. It may mean that we owe even more in taxes, but that seems a small price to pay.

You’ve come a long way baby, and jewelry is a lovely way to both reward yourself and help stimulate the economy with your refund.

Designer Spotlight: David Heston

david-heston-necklace1David Heston designs gorgeous pieces, daring combinations of sterling silver, black rubber, colored stones, 18k gold and diamonds that are equally appropriate worn for formal or casual occasions. He is inspired by both modern and classic art forms and prior to jewelry, his chosen medium was sculpture. He loves the never ending possible shapes and forms that urge him to create his new designs.

“I see my ideal client as someone who knows what she likes and is very confident in her personal style. She appreciates good jewelry design and feels good about wearing my pieces,” says Heston. Read more…
