August 12, 2009: Because the only way to have a life is to commit to it like crazy
One week ago the world laid Corazon Aquino, former president of the Philippines, to rest. Cory wasn’t a perfect leader, but she did give it her all. When Dictator Marcos accused her of having no experience, she responded with gusto: “It is true. I have no experience in lying, cheating, stealing, and killing. I offer you honesty and sincerity in leadership.”
A mother of five who listed her occupation as ‘housewife’ on the election registration form, she reluctantly stepped in to fill the shoes of her assassinated husband. Cory led her country to overthrow a dictatorship through peaceful civil-disobedience and started a chain-reaction of democratization around the globe. Not bad for a housewife.
Cory, you are the Delamina woman of the week. May you rest in peace.
