August 5, 2009: Because the phrase ‘Working Mother’ is redundant

Whether applied to parenting, exercise or career, having goals and holding firm to them is critical to success. We are taught to have a clear picture of what we want to achieve, a concise plan to achieve it, and a support system. catriona-matthewI’m fairly certain that Scottish golfer Catriona Matthew has a goal, a plan and support. She certainly has determination. She’s been golfing a long time with no ‘major’ wins. She hasn’t given up and her husband is her caddy.

It is impressive enough to win the Women’s British Open. But to win your first major title 11 weeks after the birth of your second child, 11 days after escaping from a fire, and 3 weeks before your 40th birthday is even more so. Winning both the tournament trophy and the new title of ‘Supermum’, Catriona Matthew is our Delamina woman of the week.

Mothers and Daughters

hillary_clinton_chelsea_clintonSpeaking of Supermum’s, Chelsea Clinton sure has one. This week Laura Beth DeHority writes about Hillary and Chelsea Clinton in her Mothers and Daughters series.

And Chrissy has chosen a special Ginger Peachy piece to write about. “When was the last time you bought yourself a nice big, beautiful ring? A statement ring that will sparkle with every outfit at every time of day. Don’t you deserve a signature piece of jewelry that will go with anything in your closet and always be in style?” Read more…

Fashion Trend: Good Girls with Bad Nails

black-nailsWith wit and insight, Chrissy Bryant brings us her perspective on a recent trend. “Sometimes I wonder where these trends come from … the excessively padded shoulders, polyester bellbottoms (or just polyester itself), huge scrunchies, acid wash jeans … but recently, I’ve wondered who to blame for black nail polish.” Read more…
