June 3, 2009: Because We All Wanna Change the World

We all yearn to make an imprint on the world, make a difference, leave some kind of lasting impression. And most of us want that to be a positive change, to make the world a better place. My friend and co-worker Meggan volunteers at a food bank every Thursday. EVERY Thursday. She may be exhausted after an insane day at work and have a million other things to do – but there is Meggan, off to the food bank, while some of her friends are sitting on their good intentions at Happy Hour. With a growing hungry population and an average of a 30% rise in emergency food assistance requests across the U. S. - that is making a difference.

vicki-escarraAnd then there is Vicki Escarra, our Delamina Woman of the Week. While she began her career as a flight attendant at Delta Air Lines, this talented and hard-working woman worked her way up to Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. She is currently the President and CEO of Feeding America. Since 2006 when she accepted this position, she had taken the organization through a rebranding and aggressively upped their goals. Vicki is truly making a difference and changing the world.

“Whether a result of current-event hysteria (Swine Flu! Pirates! Earthquakes in LA!), or simply a case of spring fever, designers, it seems, have been feeling a bit loopy lately.” Read more…
