July 15, 2009: Because You Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘til It’s Gone
This past month I’ve felt a profound sense of loss. It started at the end of a wonderful vacation in Paris when my laptop took a tragic, and fatal, tumble. And of course I hadn’t backed it up in 3 years. My life is spent on my laptop, working far more hours than are mentally or physically healthy, every day. My reaction was high drama with a depression chaser. But my laptop loss pales in comparison to the one-two punch of losing Farrah Fawcett, expectedly, and then Michael Jackson, SO not. Yes - don’t it always seems to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone…
Then we won tickets to Michael’s memorial. I couldn’t go, but feel like I was there with my husband and daughter saying good bye to an icon – no matter how unusual. Losing 3 years of blood, sweat and tears on a laptop is nothing.
And then Obama chooses Regina Benjamin as Surgeon General. How much loss has she experienced? How many times has she had to fight her way back? She rebuilt her clinic after Katrina with second mortgages and no sleep. No room for depression, no time to lick her wounds. Build, re-build and build again. Regina – you are the Delamina woman of the week, bringing us back to life. Again.
Mothers and Daughters
Appropriate for this week that we are rolling around in, and letting go of loss, Laura Beth DeHority chose Angelina Jolie and Marcheline Bertrand for her Mothers and Daughters series. Their relationship was extremely private, intimate, poignant and real.
“When I think of great and enduring yet unconventional love between a mother and daughter, I think of Marcheline Bertrand and her daughter, Angelina Jolie.” Read more…
Summer Fire
Time to lighten things up a bit. Chrissy Bryant has been on fire this week, writing about the fabulous July birthstone. She wrote about what the stone represents. “The gem of desire, courage, passion and emotion – the ruby, considered a precious gemstone, has been coveted for centuries”. Read more…
She also wrote about some of the rubies offered on Delamina. “July brings hot heat and a fiery red gemstone – the precious ruby. Named the gemstone of the Sun, these sweltering red stones are a reminder of the warm, carefree months of summer.” Read more…
Delamina Features Ian Saude
Delamina’s Ian Saude blends elements of ancient art and culture into his distinctive fine jewelry designs. “I think that the way in which Delamina presents jewelry is very interesting,” stated Saude. “The whole idea of a woman having to wait around for someone else to buy her a piece of jewelry or for a special holiday or occasion is just totally outdated. I really appreciate how Delamina encourages women to live and express themselves on their own terms.” Read more…
Reminders
Please enter our Make a Statement contest. It only takes a few minutes and there’s still time to become the July finalist.
Warmest regards,
