July 30, 2009: Because strong women leave big hickies

On July 23rd th LA Times Entertainment section headline read “There are strong women, and then there is Sigourney Weaver”. I must admit, the headline had me regardless of the subject. Stick a ‘Because’ in front of it and I’m over the moon. The fact that it was about Sigourney Weaver was icing on the cake. But what icing!

sigourney-weaver-2Admittedly, the article was about ComicCon and her role in the Alien trilogy, but it reminded me of other great roles Ms. Weaver has played: “The Year of Living Dangerously”, “Working Girl” and even “Ghostbusters”.

Sigourney’s tale is classic ‘Ugly Duckling’. A tall nerd in high school, she went on to earn degrees from Stanford and Yale and then to win the hearts of America. She is a devoted environmentalist and honorary chairperson for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

Elegant, funny, gorgeous, complex, smart AND strong, Ms. Weaver you are the Delamina woman of the week.

The Style of William Schraft

william-schraft-blue-topaz-earringsChrissy Bryant is quite taken with the designs of William Schraft and writes this week about his distinct style. In ‘18K Gold Windows’ she talks about the man and his work. “When you look at William Schraft’s elegant jewelry, it’s difficult to believe he first began sketching automobiles from the moment he could hold a pencil. They must have been some great looking cars.” Read more…

william-schraft-green-amethyst-cuff-braceletIn ‘Queen of Cuffs’, Chrissy describes a very special piece by William Schraft that is available on the Delamina site. “The best way to dress up your wrist this summer is with a dramatically glittering cuff bracelet. William Schraft does it best with this sterling silver and 18k gold cuff bracelet, bezel set with one faceted cushion icy green amethyst surrounded by gold filigree.” Read more…

Mothers and Daughters

jenna_laura_barbarba-bushFor this week’s Mother-Daughter feature, Laura Beth DeHority has chosen to write about Laura Bush and her twins Jenna and Barbara.

“Top level diplomats had nothing on Laura Bush as she juggled her role of First Lady and mother to the party girls, Jenna and Barbara. Laura was steadfast in her assertion that her daughters had the right to sow their oats without Secret Service intervention. After all, the girls did not sign up for the role of first daughters.” Read more…
