July 30, 2009: Because strong women leave big hickies
On July 23rd th LA Times Entertainment section headline read “There are strong women, and then there is Sigourney Weaver”. I must admit, the headline had me regardless of the subject. Stick a ‘Because’ in front of it and I’m over the moon. The fact that it was about Sigourney Weaver was icing on the cake. But what icing!
Admittedly, the article was about ComicCon and her role in the Alien trilogy, but it reminded me of other great roles Ms. Weaver has played: “The Year of Living Dangerously”, “Working Girl” and even “Ghostbusters”.
Sigourney’s tale is classic ‘Ugly Duckling’. A tall nerd in high school, she went on to earn degrees from Stanford and Yale and then to win the hearts of America. She is a devoted environmentalist and honorary chairperson for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
Elegant, funny, gorgeous, complex, smart AND strong, Ms. Weaver you are the Delamina woman of the week.
