May 13, 2009: Because Two Blondes Can Make it Right

The New York Times published an article yesterday that shocked me. There is a company that has patented genes that are associated with increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer – and also the tests that measure for the presence of these genes. My mind takes flight, ethics issues abound. And once again I realize that I still have a few innocent bits.

She was in San Francisco this week at a medical center that is making huge advances in early detection of cancer markers, talking about breast cancer and kicking off this year’s series of Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events.

goldie-hawnAnother gorgeous blonde with a heart of gold who is making a difference is the ageless Goldie Hawn. She was in the news this week, campaigning for effective children’s mental health programs at a congressional briefing. She is the founder of The Hawn Foundation and an advocate for children. Incidentally, Goldie’s mother was a true Delamina woman who owned a dance school and a jewelry shop. She died of cancer in 1994.

Mothers and Daughters

Laura Beth Doherity (fondly know as LBD) has chosen Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson for her Mothers and Daughters column this week. “I bet Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson still play dress up. And borrow clothes from each other. Talk about two kindred free spirits!” Read more…

Me thinks LBD might be one to something. While sleuthing I discovered that Kate reportedly sometimes borrows bling from her mother. “If I’m not feeling good, I load on lots of jewelry. It gives me energy and makes me feel kind of happy.” Quote courtesy of Instyle.com

Designer Spotlight

I see my ideal customer as someone with a strong sense of style and who knows what she likes - this fits in very nicely with Delamina’s philosophy.” Read more…
