November 18, 2009: Because In Violence We Forget Who We Are
Although it is much easier to find news items regarding her lips, fashion choices or sex life, Nicole Kidman, our Delamina woman of the week, is very active in her role as Good will Ambassador to UNIFEM which, this month, launched a new initiative – Say NO – Unite to End Violence Against Women. 
She missed a trip to Kenya due to the flu, but she’s on the stump, visiting hospitals and schools and appearing in public service announcements.
In 2007 UNIFEM began an internet-based signature campaign to show support for the pending multi-year campaign. Within a year, over 5 million signatures were gathered and in November 2008 Nicole handed those signatures over to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. And now, one year later, this innovative global platform has launched riding on the groundswell of support and depending on actions (consisting of anything from advocating for legislation, donating funds to programs that protect women from violence, talking with students about the issue, to volunteering at local shelter). Nicole and UNIFEM have set the goal of reaching 100,000 actions by March 2010 and then 1 million actions within one year.
