October 14, 2009: Because When Evil Burns and Bombs, Good Must Build and Bind
I can imagine being married to and having three children with a loving man who goes off to war and comes back changed in a way that just doesn’t work, that involves violence – and needing to leave him. I can almost imagine the fear and sense of loss when he steals the children and flees the country - and having to fight long and hard to get them back.
But I can’t come close to imagining what is must be like to have that man turn into a deadly sniper, killing people as a cover for his intent to kill me. And I don’t want to imagine the impact on the children.
Mildred Muhammad has lived this nightmare when her ex became the Beltway Sniper. She is now an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and a mother helping her children heal the holes in their hearts. She is also Delamina woman of the week.
