THE DIRT

Surita Ghosh is the creator of Enamorata. Her mother taught her about fashion, music, cooking, how to draw, and most importantly, how to be a lady while standing your ground. Her father taught her how to be thorough and detail oriented, to be able to view the micro and the macro. When she was five, she told her parents she wanted to be an artist when she grew up. It took twenty years before realizing that the key to her happiness was in honoring that early statement. Enamorata has a double meaning. It means secret love. Knowing that art would someday be an integral part of her life, she continued drawing, painting, etc. as she pursued other careers. It also means to inspire with love. Surita believes art, in any form, is one of the truest ways to pass love from one being to another. She makes each piece of jewelry with the hope that it enables the wearer to discover her beauty within.

Surita is inspired by everything from the sheer unparalleled beauty of nature (the way dew glimmers on a spider's web, to gloriously rich tones found in autumn leaves, to the way the color of the ocean changes to shades of apatite once you drive past Pt. Lobos on Highway 1) to art (Gustav Klimt, Maxfield Parrish, and everything Art Nouveau) to culture (the intricate handcarved details of Indian temples and sculptures, the beauty and serenity of the inside of a Tibetan Buddhist temple, watching a musician play an instrument like it is an extension of his or her body), to food (cooking has taught her that you just know when you've nailed a dish and it is something a cookbook cannot teach you.. the ultimate satisfaction is the bliss on the face of friends or family as they dig in).

Her biggest fashion influences are: Stevie Nicks - The image she has created through her fashion sense and her music are one and the same: ethereal and mystical, yet grounded by her power as a woman and artist. And, god bless her for those rocking boots! John Galliano - His dresses are feminine and powerful. If Surita had been born as a fashion designer, she would have liked to be John Galliano. She finds him as interesting as the clothes he creates.

The materials that Surita most often work with are yellow gold, and any stone provided that it is vibrant in color or fascinating to her in some way.

EVEN DIRTIER

How would you categorize your jewelry designs in general?

Eclectic
Bohemian
Utterly feminine
Arty

Which celebrity do you most envision wearing your designs? And what would they be doing?

Susan Sarandon. She would be going about the business of life and speaking her truth, as she often does, in the outspoken and beautifully unapologetic manner for which she is known.

What type of jewelry do you like to wear?

It depends upon how I feel when I wake up that day. The way I dress, the jewelry I wear, reflects my emotions that morning.

What is your idea of a dream vacation?

It doesn't matter if it's a road trip across the Southwest, wandering happily in awe in Florence, Barcelona or Oaxaca, or trekking across the Himalayas. My ideal vacation, regardless of where I go, is one where I can blend in and experience the culture as a local (rather than travel like a tourist), enjoy mouth watering local cuisine, be awed by the natural beauty of the area, and meet amazing people who will teach me something new about other people and places, as well as about myself.

What article of jewelry do you think most enhances a woman's body? Why?

All jewelry enhances a woman. The piece that most enhances her is the one that makes her see and feel the beauty inside herself when she puts it on.

What aspect of your jewelry is most reflective of you?

Every aspect of it reflects me. A piece with color gradation reflects my love for all things color and my desire for perfection in art, as the colors seamlessly blend from one to the next as they work their way around the rainbow. Finishing a piece and knowing that it is complete because it reflects what I envisioned in my mind's eye.

Preferred metal:

Yellow gold- 18 or 22 karat.

Most likely to get energy from:

Music and meditating.

Preferred shopping venue:

I most enjoy shopping when I didn't expect to. When it is unplanned, yet you happen upon the most exquisite shop in the most unlikely location. I have stumbled across some of my favorite items in this manner.

Favorite Art Museum:

The Louvre and The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.

Home decor/design:

Eclectic, whimsical, and inviting to all who enter.

Preferred abode on the rode:

A cottage or house that I can rent and make my home away from home. That way I have the option of cooking, which I find incredibly therapeutic.
